Watch how we construct a typical Los Angeles "Good Neighbor" dog-ear fence, ensuring privacy and durability.
Specialized Materials
We select materials specifically engineered for the Southern California climate, from UV-stabilized vinyl to rot-resistant redwood.
Redwood & Cedar
"Construction Heart" redwood resists termites. Western Red Cedar for warp resistance in dry heat.
Vinyl Systems
High-grade vinyl with TiO2 inhibitors prevents "chalking" and yellowing in Valley heat.
Iron & Aluminum
Powder-coated tubular steel. The gold standard for security and elegance in Beverly Hills.
Composite
Eco-friendly recycled materials. The natural look of wood with the durability of plastic.
Black Chain Link
"Invisible" black vinyl-coated chain link blends into landscapes. Salt-air resistant core.
Glass Pool Safety
Frameless tempered glass meeting 60-inch code. Climb-resistant panels eliminate footholds.
Unsure about your property lines?
We handle the survey and DigAlert utility marking for every project.
Recent Installations
From the Hollywood Hills to the South Bay, we build fences that define properties.
Mastering the LA Terrain
Hillside & Retaining Walls
We "step" panels for steep grades and "rack" for gentle slopes to eliminate pet escape gaps. Expert calculation of combined height rules for retaining walls.
Fire Safety (VHFHSZ)
In "Zone 0" (e.g., Porter Ranch, Bel Air), we install non-combustible wrought iron or tubular steel returns to connect fencing to your main structure safely.
Historic Districts (HPOZ)
In areas like Hancock Park, vinyl is rarely approved. We specialize in historically accurate wood and iron designs that pass HPOZ Board review.
LADBS Compliant
Every installation is double-checked against local zoning and safety regulations.
Common Questions from LA Homeowners
Navigating Los Angeles Municipal Codes (LAMC), hillside grading, and fire zones can be complex. Here are the answers you need before breaking ground.
Do I need a permit to build a fence in Los Angeles?
In most residential zones, a permit is not required for fences under 7 feet tall (or masonry walls under 3.5 feet). However, strict exceptions apply:
- Front Yards: Strictly limited to 42 inches in height in required setbacks.
- Corner Lots: The "visibility triangle" near intersections often limits height to 30-42 inches.
- Retaining Walls: Any wall over 4 feet requires a permit and engineering.
How much does fence installation cost in Los Angeles (2025)?
Costs vary by terrain and material. Current local averages for installation (materials + labor) are:
Can you install fences on steep slopes or hillsides?
Yes. For Los Angeles hillsides, we typically use one of two methods:
- Stepped Installation: Panels are installed level, creating a stair-step effect. Required for rigid vinyl.
- Racked Installation: Rails follow the ground's slope. Best for keeping pets in as it eliminates bottom gaps.
What materials are safe for High Fire Severity Zones?
If you are in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone (VHFHSZ) like Porter Ranch or Bel Air, combustible fences attached to the home are a risk.
We recommend non-combustible materials (wrought iron, tubular steel, or masonry) for the first 5 feet where the fence connects to the house structure (Zone 0).
Is Wood or Vinyl better for the LA climate?
- Vinyl: Best for longevity. We use high-grade vinyl with TiO2 inhibitors to prevent yellowing or chalking from the intense Valley heat.
- Wood: Offers the classic aesthetic required in Historic Preservation Overlay Zones (HPOZ). We use "Construction Heart" Redwood/Cedar to resist dry rot.
Who pays for a shared fence in California?
Under California's Good Neighbor Fence Act, neighbors are generally presumed to be equally responsible for the reasonable costs of construction and maintenance of a boundary fence.
We can provide detailed, itemized invoices split between two parties to make the reimbursement process smoother.
